When I was a teen I loved big boys. I went all the time.
But today, I was out running errands with my husband & daughter & we went to the big boy in riverview Mi. And well let’s just say….. I’ll never go again. The waitstaff was very nice. But the food my husband got was so overcooked it crumbled. She let him order something else & before he had more than a few bites, I look over at my toddlers food & see a bug cooked into the pancake. There was only us & one other table, so its not like the cooks were overly busy. So … If I saw it… How did the cook NOT see it. I would have rather seen it in my food. The fact that my daughter was about to eat it made me sick to my stomach. I don’t think I can ever eat there again. I do not blame the waitress. We gave her a nice tip just for trying to make things right. But I don’t think I have ever been more sick to my stomach at a restaurant before.

We used to love big boy, but have had major issues, and are no longer a customer. Lake Orion, MI Big Boy has horrible service, walked out of the Big Boy in Troy, MI, no service, the Rochester, MI Big Boy served frozen chicken, we went to the Romeo, MI Big Boy yesterday, and it was 28.00 for 2 adults and 1 child, we could have gone to Olive Garden for a nicer meal for the same price. No one goes to Big Boy now that we know because of service or pricing.

Michael, your info re: Illinois Big Boys is incorrect. There is ONE Big Boy left in Illinois — in Danville.

I am 27, but I grew up with Bob’s. We had one a few minutes from us in Highland Park. We knew the entire staff by name (not that I remember them anymore!). The only ones left in that area are in Glendale and Burbank. I live in Florida now. I found a Bob’s out here that I am going to try to get to this week. Here’s hoping it’s the real deal!

Growing up in the 1960′s in the Chicago area we had a Tops Big Boy near us. In the 1980′s or there about it was changed to a Marc’s Big Boy. Always liked the double hamburger and the Branwy Lad. Sad to say there are not any in Illinois anymore or even in Wisconsin. Anyone want to open one with me in Northern Illinois or Southern Wisonsin?

I am almost 75 now and Bob’s was still the best hamburger I ever ate. Of course, in Pasadena we went all through high school and JC eating at Bob’s. Who needed anything else?

I ate in the original Bob’s Big Boy restaurant which had, I believe, a counter and a very few tables. This was in Glendale, CA and the year was 1942. A burger and fries and a chocolate milkshake which was so thick you had to eat it with a spoon, served in a metal container which got all frosty. Am I right?
