Name: Domino’s Pizza
Type of Food: Pizza
Interesting Fact: The three dots on a Domino’s Pizza box represent the first three Domino’s stores. Tom Monaghan, the orignal owener, had planned to add another dot for each new restaurant that opened, but given the rapid rate at which Domino’s opened new stores, that quickly became impractical.
History: In 1960 Tom Monaghan and his brother James purchase “DomiNick’s,” a pizza store in Ypsilanti, Michigan. Monaghan borrowed $500 to buy the store. A year later James trades his half of the business to Tom for a Volkswagen Beetle. In 1965 Tom Monaghan renames the business “Domino’s Pizza, Inc.” Today, there are more than 7,000 stores – including over 2,000 in more than 55 other countries.
